The Ford Ranchero is a coupe utility that was produced by Ford from 1957 to 1979. Unlike a pickup truck, the Ranchero was adapted from a two-door station wagon platform that integrated the cab and cargo bed into the body. The first generation was introduced in 1957 and offered in two trim levels. The second generation Falcon Ranchero, introduced in 1960, was a much smaller version to compete with the small, economical cars. A third generation only ran for one model year (1966) and marked the final year of sedan delivery. In 1968 the fourth generation saw the largest model since 1959. Three trim levels were offered; base Ranchero, Ranchero 500 and Ranchero GT. An additional trim level (Ranchero Squire) was introduced with the fifth generation in 1970. The sixth generation received a larger, heavier design in 1972, and in 1977 the Ranchero was restyled in line with the Ford LTD until the final year of production in 1979.
